Albuquerque Journal Candidate Questionnaire, Posted Oct 1. 2014

Former State Representative and current candidate for House Rep. in District 53 Ricky Little lied to voters and the Albuquerque Journal in his candidate questionnaire – not just once but at least 18 times.

Touting his experience as a small business owner with experience “dealing with budgets, taxes and regulations,” former State Rep. Ricky Little responded to the Albuquerque Journal candidate questionnaire stating that he had never “been the subject of any state or federal tax liens.”  A simple Google and public records search turned up at least 18 different federal and state tax liens and property seizures against companies owned or managed by Little. See the full list below.

The Journal also recently accepted State Rep. Nate Gentry’s assertions that a new charge of illegal hunting had been dismissed without fanfare. A ProgressNowNM investigation found that Gentry had asked for “a break” from the officer investigating multiple criminal violations involved in the incident and later served probation during the legislature for the offense. The Journal never inquired about or reported the new encounter, conviction or probation by a sitting member of legislative leadership.

“It took us less than 10 minutes to fact-check Little’s patently false assertion,” says Patrick Davis of ProgressNowNM. “Voters trust the Journal to check the facts when they publish their paper. The state’s largest newspaper owes readers at least that much effort to check the assertions of candidates seeking their endorsement and using their paper to talk to voters,” Davis adds.

Little was previously outed by ProgressNowNM for not living in his district after it was discovered that he registered to vote – and run for office – from a mobile trailer office on his house moving business lot. Confronted about the allegations, Little said he occasionally slept on the couch there, making that a home for election standards.
