#GivingTuesday = Better New Mexico
While most New Mexicans spent last Friday in early morning lines for the kids’ new iPhones, or Small Business Saturday at the corner boutique shopping for Aunt Nancy’s pajama jeans (yes, that’s a thing), and Cyber Monday searching for that quirky gizmo they saw on Shark Tank, we were out shopping too.
We used Black Friday deals to buy a new computer like the one our staff used to track down Governor Martinez’s secret email cache everyone else thought she deleted.
We bought office paper to replace the thousands of petition pages we printed that put marijuana decriminalization on the ballot and that we created almost 100,000 marijuana issue voter guides from for voters heading to the polls.
Yesterday, we went looking for deals on cameras just like the ones we used two years ago to expose Tea Party activists training poll watchers to turn away voters, and like the one we used in Lincoln, NM that caught Dianna Duran’s campaign fooling voters by covering up the ‘Republican’ label on her signs.
As a non-profit fighting for a better New Mexico, we count on donations from local supporters to do our work. The Koch brothers don’t pay our bills, and they never will.
So we search for deals wherever we can to make every dollar of your donations go further. We’re closing out a big year and looking towards 2015 where we have even more to do and less time to do it. Republicans are in control of the House and we have to take it back. Conservatives are looking to force their policy agenda down the throats of our working families – stifling the minimum wage, disenfranchising voters through photo voter ID, gutting environmental regulations, cutting corporate taxes even further. We have to stop them.
After Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday comes Giving Tuesday. This Tuesday, won’t you give yourself the gift of a better New Mexico?
WHAT IS #GIVINGTUESDAY?
We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Join us and be a part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity. – GivingTuesday.org
