Representatives from a wide ranging coalition of New Mexico non-profit organizations held a press conference in Las Cruces today, highlighting their work on a campaign to shed light on Congressman Steve Pearce’s voting record as it relates to public lands, national monuments, and renewable energy.

Step Up Steve ( is a collaboration between ProgressNow New Mexico’s Education Fund, OLÉ Education Fund, New Mexico Wildlife Federation, Vet Voice Foundation, and Hispanic Access Foundation that have come together to highlight deficiencies between Pearce’s voting record and the needs and wants of his constituencies.

“New Mexicans, along with the rest of the country, want more renewable energy and the jobs that come with it, yet Steve Pearce has fought that future,” explained Lucas Herndon, representing ProgressNow NM Education Fund. “Steve Pearce has repeatedly voted to reduce or eliminate funding for clean energy and energy efficiency programs, stifling innovation and hurting efforts for our state and nation to lead the world in clean energy technologies. Steve Pearce is out of step with the views of New Mexicans on renewable energy.”

Each organization has published online ads, billboards, and radio ads, calling on Pearce to “step up” and work with the people he’s elected to represent.

We encourage our readers to head over to and sign the online petition asking the congressman to step up and represent our values as New Mexicans.

If you already have signed the petition, help us keep working on with our partners around the state to hold our elected representatives accountable to the voters!
