Roman Jimenez is OUT as leader of the GOP in Dona Ana County.

Less than 72 hours after posting an extremely racist and hate-filled message on the Dona Ana County Republican Party Facebook page, now former chair Roman Jimenez has resigned from his position according to a press release on their page.

ProgressNow New Mexico circulated a petition which garnered hundreds of signatures in less than a day, after it was discovered that Jimenez has had a long history of racist and other hate-filled speech.

Just like it took President Trump over two days to finally disavow KKK and white-supremacist actions after the violence in Charlottesville, it has taken several days for local GOP leaders (and then only under intense pressure in both cases) to remove Jimenez from his leadership position.

So who’s the new guy?

Preliminary searches show that Victor Contreras has been involved with the Republican party for a number of years. He ran (but lost)to serve within the GOP state committee at the end of last year, and was affiliated with a conservative PAC called Hispanos Unidos, which ProgressNow New Mexico reported on nearly five years ago when they pushed for regressive labor laws in the state.

This is a breaking story so stay tuned as we learn more about the new shakeup in Dona Ana County’s GOP saga.
