As Albuquerque prepares for vote on being Immigrant Friendly City, some reminders from activists who protested AG Sessions last week

Tonight (Monday, April 16), Albuquerque city councilors are expected to vote on whether or not to reaffirm that the state’s largest city will remain an “Immigrant Friendly City.” Despite the verbose and hateful rhetoric from the Trump administration threatening cities and states with the moral aptitude to

Last week, Attorney General Jeff Sessions brought his anti-immigrant, white supremacist views to Las Cruces where he spoke to a conference of sheriffs from counties in the borderland regions of the Southwest. He was met with more protestors outside than there were attendees of the event inside which made national and international headlines. Oh, and then there were the disruptors. Five folks from the community made their way into the hotel where Sessions was speaking and after being told they could not listen to what Sessions had to say, huddled up closely, locked arms, and began chanting: NO JUSTICE!

Transparent, honest, ethical politics – our gift to New Mexicans

Don’t miss out on an opportunity to join a network of state-wide progressive activists, organizations, and the elected officials who represent them/us. This is an opportunity to take action in our New Mexico communities, to ensure we continue to resist the advances of groups like AFP and ALEC in New Mexico. We can fight back together. GOP uses tax plan for a sneak attack on abortion

These past two weeks have been extremely good weeks for progressives in the Land of Enchantment. Last week progressives swept the Las Cruces City Council races, giving progressives a majority on the council. This week the Duke City also had landslide wins for progressives in the runoff elections for mayor and city council. Does this feel a little too good to be true? Not to worry – we’re here to burst that feel good bubble we’ve all been living in and bring us back to the abortion battle Republicans in Congress can’t seem to let go of.

Steve Pearce and President Trump agree: No healthcare for you

President Donald Trump yesterday signed an executive order aimed squarely at undermining major tenets of the Affordable Care Act after his party has repeatedly failed to pass so-called repeal and replace legislation since his term began. Trump’s actions jeopardize millions of Americans while being extremely unpopular with all but his more ardent supporters. Supporters like New Mexico’s own Steve Pearce. #ICYMI: Pearce Statement on @POTUS healthcare Executive Order: https://t.co/98nbeS58DN
— Steve Pearce (@RepStevePearce) October 12, 2017

Congressman Pearce’s statement blames Obamacare for “failing” without once mentioning the role he and the Republican majority in Congress have had in actively defunding it while failing to proactively replace the law with ANYTHING else. But honestly, what else could be expected from the man whose stance on healthcare in America is this:
…people should just “stay healthy until you are old enough for Medicare.”

Republicans attack abortion… again

As New Mexicans, we understand the value of respect – which is why we respect women to make their own decisions. Personal decisions about abortion need to remain with New Mexican women, their families, and their medical providers.

Graham-Cassidy: Worse than Other Repeal Bills (especially for NM)

Here’s a couple of questions to consider about a plan that was already rejected once. Which part of the Graham-Cassidy Obamacare repeal is worse?

$1500 in funding cuts (cost increases) for New Mexico plans? or,
Taking Medicaid money from NM to give to Texas to reward TX for not expanding Medicaid to help the poor.
We’ll let you decide…

Evolution? Climate Change? Science? New NMPED curriculum replaces science with ideology

According to the Albuquerque Journal, the New Mexico Education Department rolled out new proposed teaching standards, last week. Among said standards was a set for Science proposed nationally in 2013, by 26 other states. These standards are known as the “Next Generation of Science” standards.

Fast forward to last week, and Governor Martinez and her administration are choosing to edit, and then implement these proposed standards in New Mexico public schools. The edits suggested from the Martinez administration are poised to remove references to climate change and evolution along with forgetting about the age of this round ball we live on called Earth.

Celebrate Women’s right to vote – now protect abortion

Shortly after this year’s inauguration, we saw millions of women across the nation, including New Mexico, rally and march in solidarity for women’s rights – above all the right to be respected to make our own decisions about abortion. We knew right off the bat, that this new administration would be gunning for us, and they are.

But the momentum cannot stop at rallies or marches, we need to take this momentum to the ballot box. We need to vote.

TAKE ACTION: Tell Trump not to pardon Sheriff Joe Arpaio

In July, a federal judge convicted Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio of willfully violating a federal order to stop using his police force to target residents based on race.  Earlier this month, President Trump announced that he would travel to Phoenix, launching speculation that Trump would pardon his long-time ally. Tuesday afternoon, White House communications staff said that Donald Trump was not prepared to talk about pardoning the former sheriff. Four hours later, Trump mentioned it anyway.
