[ACT NOW] Time is running out for your comments to save our National Monuments

Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke said in testimony yesterday that he would come to New Mexico and see first-hand areas within at least one of the state’s two National Monuments his department is reviewing. I thank @MartinHeinrich for the invitation to see #NewMexico on horseback. Looking forward to it. — Secretary Ryan Zinke (@SecretaryZinke) June 20, 2017

The DOI is reviewing the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument and Rio Grande del Norte National Monument because of spurious claims that President Obama overreached his authority when designating both areas under the Antiquities Act. Medicaid rollback will impact New Mexicans most

New Mexico is one of many states suffering from an opioid epidemic. Stories about states battling the grips of overdose and the overwhelming instances of treatment, hospitalization, and death of addicts have been the focus of national media lately.

Heinrich to Jeff Sessions: “You’re impeding this investigation”

New Mexico’s Martin Heinrich is becoming a leading figure in the US Senate’s investigation of Russian involvement in American elections and collusion between Russian and President Trump’s campaign.

After quizzing fired FBI Director James Comey last week, Heinrich was also featured as a key questioner of Attorney General Jeff Sessions during this week’s hearings. And Heinrich pulled no punches in his assessment of the attorney general’s cooperation. A recap from Business Insider captured the exchange:

Sen. Martin Heinrich aggressively questioned Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday over his decision not to share details of his conversations with President Donald Trump. During a highly-anticipated Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, the New Mexico Democrat confronted Sessions about his refusal to reveal non-classified conversations with the president after Sessions dodged a question about whether Trump expressed dissatisfaction over Sessions’ recusal from the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.

One more reason for NM Women to join the Resistance

Birth control has meant that women have more opportunity and better control over their own lives. We’ve made important progress for women’s health. The rate of unintended pregnancy is at an all-time low, thanks in part to expanded access to birth control. People in this country, and especially New Mexico, do not want to see that progress rolled back.
