Albuquerque – State House candidate Chris Saucedo owes Governor Martinez big. In the same month that candidates for office began declaring their candidacy and circulating nominating petitions, Republican Chris Saucedo got two big professional boosts.
The day before nominating petitions began, the Martinez administration issued a Request for Proposal for legal services. The short window for proposals closeed and on October 31, 2011 Jay Hone, husband of former congresswoman and Martinez transition team leader Heather Wilson, signed off on a new contract worth up to $1,000,000 for Saucedo’s legal firm, assuring him four years of legal work.
Just 5 days later, Martinez did him another favor. She appointed him to the board of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. And not just as a board member, but as its Chair, though he had not previously served on the board.
Not a bad arrangement if you can get it. Run for office, get a $1,000,000 contract and a plush high-profile appointment all in 1-month. A pretty good month for Chris Saucedo. And who does he have to thank for that? And whose interests will he be voting for? Good questions for Chris Saucedo.
