SANTA FE, NM –Legislators from the UNM area in Albuquerque will host a public legislative town hall meeting on Saturday, February 28, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Monte Vista Christian Church Bethany Hall in Albuquerque. Monte Vista Christian Church is located at 3501 Campus Boulevard Northeast in Albuquerque.
State Representatives Gail Chasey (D-18-Bernalillo) and Sheryl Williams Stapleton (D-19-Bernalillo), with State Senator Cisco McSorley (D-16-Bernalillo) will use the town hall to hear their constituents concerns about the current session and answer any questions about the Legislature they might have.
Legislation from Representative Gail Chasey this session has included putting a cap on loan interest rates (HB 36), protecting pregnant employees from discrimination in the workplace (HB 37), and seeking protections against animal cruelty for horses (HB 410 and HB 411).
Representative Sheryl Williams Stapleton has introduced several bills pertaining to education, including bills to limit testing in schools (HB 176) and evaluating the implementation of Common Core standards (HB 177). In addition, Rep. Stapleton has introduced legislation that explores renewable energy funding and tax credits (HB 70 and HB 179).
Legislators will be available for comments at the town hall meeting.
