Heinrich: Make today “TRUMP-FREE DAY!”

Print More

New Mexico Senator Martin Heinrich has used email and social media to call out the dangerous and divisive tactics and language some of the right wing’s loudest voices are using to get attention.

His post calling for the US Dept. of Justice to prosecute “armed extremists” occupying a wildlife refuge in Oregon received hundreds of shares.

Now he’s turning his efforts to Donald Trump.

Sen. Heinrich has declared today a “TRUMP-FREE DAY!”.  Sounds like a pretty good idea to us so we are sharing it — we’re just adding the #TrumpFreeDay hashtag (we know, it should have been “Trump-Free,” but twitter doesn’t get the “-“) to watch it spread!

Here’s how it works:

It seems like I can’t turn on the TV without being bombarded with all things Donald Trump.

Whether it is the constant live stream of Trump’s every action on CNN, or his picture front and center of every news site, the all-Trump-all-the-time media frenzy is just too much.

And one thing is for sure: Trump LOVES the attention. He feeds off it, and his harmful message grows because of it.

That is why I’m making tomorrow, Friday, April 8, a Trump-Free Day. I hope you will join me in taking the Trump out of your day.

See the news talking about him? Change the channel!
Catch a glimpse of him on the front page of your favorite site? Click away!
Hear him on the radio? Turn on some jazz, blues, or Americana — that is my go-to.

The reality is that Trump’s message is dangerous. Whether it is building a wall on our border, his plan to sell off public lands, threatening punishment for a woman’s right to choose, or his disturbing views on how to combat terrorism, we cannot feed into his rhetoric and attention seeking platform.

That is why I hope you will join me and send a message by making Friday a Trump-Free Day!

Thanks for joining me,
