All over the country, United State of Women is hosting summits in communities so women can hear from activists, organizers, and experts who work in those communities to share their expertise. On December 1, the United State of Women will be hosting Galvanize New Mexico- a summit to bring together women from all over the state to listen in to expertise.
PNNM is excited to uplift this summit- after a historic midterm election, New Mexico is being looked to as a leader in the country for electing women and people of color up and down the ballot. It’s only fitting that Congresswoman-elect Deb Haaland (CD-1) and Xochitl Torres-Small (CD-2) are two of three of the main speakers at Galvanize New Mexico! They will be joined by Michelle Obama’s former Chief of Staff and Time’s Up Legal Co-Founder, Tina Tchen.
In the 2018 midterm election, we saw groups from all over the state organize and spread their messages on a progressive platform in not just the cities but also some of New Mexico’s most rural communities. When we have the people most impacted by policies leading the work on the ground and behind the scenes, we can have major wins- 2018 saw a significant increase in voter turnout than previous midterm elections and nearly 56% of eligible voters turned out.
It’s more important than ever to recognize the power New Mexico has by investing in communities of color and galvanizing our families- look at all the good that came from it on Election Day and look forward to what’s to come in 2019. The Galvanize New Mexico summit will help the state continue the momentum and ensure no community and no family gets left behind.
The Galvanize New Mexico Summit is Saturday, December 1, 2019, at the University of New Mexico (UNM) Student Union Building (SUB). Click here for more information!
