Women’s Health Care to face major challenge this Thursday. Help DEFEAT three Draconian bills

More Progressive candidates on ballots with every election, three of the top positions within the Democrat’s majority leadership occupied by women, and several wins for women’s health care this legislative session, New Mexico will soon implement many of the progressive policies we champion. But before we celebrate, there are three weeks left in this session, and MORE hurdles to leap over. We need your help TOMORROW. We need you to RSVP right now, then come to the Roundhouse this Thursday to help up defeat three draconian bills. We must show lawmakers that we respect the lives and reproductive decisions of women in New Mexico.

Take Action: Healthcare Coverage for Contraception Bill Needs your Support

[UPDATE: HB 284 is scheduled to go before the House Judiciary Committee on Monday, February 27 at 1:30pm.]
You called, emailed your legislator, and you showed up in big numbers today and you helped DEFEAT an archaic bill. We thank you! But New Mexico women STILL need your support! On Wednesday morning at the Roundhouse, should HB 284 move forward in the House Health and Human Services Committee hearing, women across the state will advance the cause of consistent and reliable access to birth control. Eliminating the need to visit a pharmacy every 30 or 90 days to refill prescriptions, will reduce the chance of an unintended pregnancy.

Tell Senators to VOTE NO on SB 183

[UPDATE: We’re proud to say that due to your efforts, SB 183 has been killed in committee. THANK YOU for your show of support and your testimonies.]

We need you to take action on an abortion bill moving through the Roundhouse TOMORROW. On Tuesday, February 14, the Senate Public Affairs Committee will hold a public hearing on SB 183 that threatens to ban women’s access to a safe and legal abortion later in the pregnancy. Each pregnancy is unique. A woman making the personal and complex decision about abortion later in pregnancy needs access to safe and legal health care without government interference.

State Republicans try to BAN ABORTION, again. RESIST!

[UPDATE:]
HB 37 has been SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD IN COMMITTEE ON THURSDAY, MARCH 2, 2017
We need to show our strength in numbers. We need your help. HB 37 or the Born Alive Bill aims to make the act of a late-term abortion a second-degree felony, no matter the circumstance, or whether or not the pregnancy endangers the mother. This bill has made the rounds before and has been voted down in committee, year after year. However, the Trump-Pence Administration is empowering more radical voices to assert dangerous policies like the Born Alive Bill, with new vigor. Their pro-life platform is far reaching and has already begun to reduce access to abortion with the ultimate goal to make all abortions illegal. Now HB 37 is back with five sponsors this year.

Sign the Petition to UNM Regents: Reject political agendas in our education and healthcare

According to a new report in the Albuquerque Journal, “A group of 25 New Mexico Republican lawmakers is calling on the University of New Mexico to halt research involving fetal body parts that have come from abortions.” “UNM HSC categorically denies ever having bought or sold fetal tissue. Nor has it made any reimbursement for the tissue it has received from women who consented to donate it for research purposes,” the center said in a statement. The organizations behind the effort have worked to limit abortion access through the state legislature and even tried to ban abortion through a ballot initiative in Albuquerque in 2013.  This new effort targets our state’s flagship institution by trying to restrict education and health care policy that doesn’t reflect their political views.
